Foreword
I started my collection by pure accident: about one year
ago I happened to be on the garret of old
building and have found there my first brick with mark "
".
Then I have found some other bricks
there. And with these bricks I started my collection.
The major part of my
collection (except
several bricks) consists of bricks produced before
1917.
In
1917 revolution has took place in Russia, centre of it was Saint-Petersburg (in
that period it was
capital of Russia) and political regime has been changed. After that all private
plants and factories,
including brick-plants, were nationalized and many of them were closed. And in
the Soviet period
that started after revolution marking of bricks was practically cancelled.
Info & Navigation
Bricks with signs in Cyrillic are placed in alphabetical order. With signs in
Roman letters and bricks
with marks – without order because of their small quantity.
Detailed information about bricks in English will appear later when I will find
enough info in
Russian – unfortunately now I have rather small volume of info.
In
catalogue there are several modern bricks, but as they have mark on them, they
have right to be in
catalogue. I guess these bricks were produced before 1970s. If I’ll find
information that bricks with
such marks are still produced I will exclude them from my collection.
I would be very glad to exchange or buy bricks from other countries but it is
impossible due to high
international mail tariffs.
Signs on the bricks mean the
following:
Letters mean name or first letters of name of brick-plant owner; rarely it means
name of place
(village or river near plant) where brick-plant was situated.
Marks (for example horseshoe) usually mean trade mark of plant.
